How to Get Trendy, Stylish Shoes and Heels for Cheap!

Everybody wants them. But no one wants to pay high prices for them. A great pair of shoes can make or break an outfit. But a great pair of shoes doesn't have to break the bank. We've put together a list of ways you can get trendy shoes cheap so that you and the inside of your wallet can continue to look good :).

How to get cheap trendy shoes

Shoe of the Month Clubs

Shoe of the month clubs provide their members with a new selection of cheap stylish shoes every month. The details of each club vary but the basics are pretty much the same: You sign up for their program (free), you take a free style quiz (free), their style experts show you a new selection of trendy shoes(free), you buy only the ones you like or none at all ($39.95 a pair). Shipping and returns are usually free (they might charge you around $6 for returns so check the terms of service to be sure.

Shoe of the month clubs are a great way to get trendy shoes inexpensively because you get great quality/style without the price or the hassle.

Their style experts (usually very knowledgeable about trends and often responsible for styling the stars you love) take care of recognizing the current trends and choosing inexpensive heels/shoes that match your style. You don't have to scour fashion mags, red carpet photos or fashion blogs to stay up to date. They do it for you.

The prices are cheap. Usually, all the shoes are $39.95 (This applies to most of the shoe of the month clubs). You will never get that awful excited sinking feeling when you see some cute trendy shoe in the $20 shoe section, go to checkout and find out it was mistagged and misplaced. All shoes on the site are $39.95 . All the time. If you see them and you love them. You buy them without shelling out tons of extra money.

No lack of a selection of trendy shoes. Every month you are presented with a group of shoes, not just one shoe. This gives you options. Instead of settling for a shoe you kind of like because you found it in the discount section, you get a selection of shoes to choose from. And if you don't like any of the shoes they select for you the first time, they will provide you with more options (free!).

Shoe Outlet Stores

If you are deadset on a certain shoe by a certain manufacturer, fashion outlets are a great way to get HUGE discounts on shoes, heels and accessories. Outlet stores traditionally cost less than normal stores for two reasons: the shoes are slightly damaged or have slight imperfections; Selling something in an outlet is cheaper than selling something in a store.

Usually, these defects are not noticable (you're buying shoes so it should be easy for you to look and see if anythings wrong). Often they can't be sold at retail prices because retail prices are inflated (more) and so if you buy something at retail, you are expecting it to be perfect. I would just be cautious and inspect the shoes to make sure nothing is wrong with them before you buy.

Outlets are cheaper because the cost of running an outlet is cheaper than running a store. This allows outlets to sell their shoes for less because they dont have to worry(as much) about salespeople, storefronts etc. Just be careful because outlets are stores too and need to make money. If you have a shoe in mind be sure to check the price of the shoe at stores BEFORE you go to an outlet. I would actually check the price of anything you buy at an outlet (or anywhere) online (bring your phone) to make sure you aren't overpaying for the product. Outlets and shoe stores often make money buy discounting some products and marking up other products. TOften, they hope that by offering some things for less they will get you in the door and you will buy other, more highly marked up products for more! That doesn't mean you shouldn't shop there, it just means you should make sure your shoe deal is a deal!

Discount Shoe Stores / Thrift Stores

This might not be the best way to get the latest styles but its still worth a shot. It's definitely not always going to happen, but you can find top name shoes and trendy heels at your neighborhood thrift shop / salvation army / discount store (Ross comes to mind).

Finding trendy shoes isn't easy but it is kind of fun (like searching for buried treasure) and scoring a great deal is a great rush! Here are some tips on how to spot a deal on shoes at a thriftstore and how to avoid paying too much:

  • Don't let the lighting fool you. Item's in thrift and discount shoe stores often don't look quite as good as they do in retail stores. Sometimes this is because the clothing is worn or damaged. But it can also be because thrift/discount stores save money by cutting the amount of money they spend on lighting. High end retail stores spend tens of thousands of dollars making sure that every item in the store looks great (this is also why clothes often look different when you take them home then when you were looking at them in the store). Try taking items off the rack and bringing them close to natural lighting (store windows) to see how it will look when you put it on and take it outside.
  • Stay away from items that are on display and exposed to a lot of natural light. This can fade the color of the shoes. Of course, if you like the faded color of the shoes you should go ahead and get them. Often times you can get a discount for it!
  • Find out when your local stores re-stock their items and get there before or as they are re-stocking. This way you can score the big deals before anyone else can!
  • Look through everything! Everyone wants trendy shoes for cheap. If everyone can see them they are going to be picked up quick. The best shoe deals are often the hardest to find.
  • Find a wealthy neighborhood and shop the discount/thrift shoe stores there. Celebrities (Paris Hilton has done this in LA) and other people with a lot of money often donate their old (and very expensive) shoes and clothing to local thrift store.
  • Decide what you want and how much you are willing to pay BEFORE you go in to the store. This will ensure that you get a deal. Most thrift store shopping is always a deal but keep in mind they all need to make money and sometimes a deal isn't the deal it seems to be
